CASE - Child Abuse Service In An Emergency

Child Abuse Service In An Emergency (CASE) is a program that works with the Division of Youth and Family Services (DYFS) to furnish specially trained Certified Home Health Aides (CHHA) to families who are in danger of child abuse, neglect, or abandonment. The CHHA provides adult supervision and protection for the children, and a positive role model and mentoring to the parent.

CASE goals are to:
  • Help strengthen the family unit and provide emotional support
  • Enable the family to remain intact in their own home
  • Provide a positive presence for children at risk
  • Enable the development of a better plan for placement
CASE helps families and parents to:
  • Keep medical and other essential appointments
  • Secure crucial welfare and housing services
  • Obtain clothing, food, and household products
  • Learn better parenting and homemaking skills
CHHA provide short-term substitute care, outside support to stabilize the family, act as caretakers, and teach basic homemaking and parenting skills. Referrals are made to the program through DYFS and sometimes the court orders services. Services are provided according to a professional service plan that includes specific client outcomes. Because CASE is an emergency program, service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
