The Families In Crisis (FIC) program is a temporary service meant to help strengthen and preserve the family during a crisis or stressful situation. This can include a new Mom who is overwhelmed, dealing with difficult children, families who find it hard to manage the home situation because of personal distress or problems, and times when a single parent is temporarily absent from the home due to illness or emergency. The family must be income eligible, have at least one child in the home under age 18, have no other supports available and be a resident of Hudson County.
- Provide short-term substitute care for children and encouragement to parents in support of a family treatment plan
- Be an outside support to stabilize the family
- Work one-on-one with the parents and teach basic homemaking and parenting skills to help maintain a healthy, safe home environment and improve the family interaction
- Keep children safely at home during the absence of the parents in an emergency or crisis
- Help strengthen the family unit through home management skills development, mentoring, encouragement and providing emotional and physical support
- Enable the family to remain intact through parenting education and short-term substitute care
- Provide a positive, safe presence for children at risk or in crisis
- Family Support Certified Home Health Aide (CHHA)
- Temporary counseling and homemaking
- Information and Referral
Referrals to FIC come from a variety of sources including parents, health centers, rehab centers, Protective Servcies, Medicaid, schools, hospitals, community services, and public housing. Services are provided according to the professional service plan that includes specific client outcomes. The length of stay for FIC normally ranges from 1 day to 3 months.
